This is the first review I’m choosing to post, and, let me tell you, it was not an easy decision!

Let me explain why…

One of the major reasons I have for writing this blog is a desire to destigmatize the romance genre, especially erotica and erotic romance.

I often worry people will judge me because I read romance. I’ve listened to people dismiss and degrade it for years. On top of that, erotica and erotic romance seem to attract even more judgment and scorn.

So, when I recently read and reviewed Sociopath’s Obsession (which is definitely a dark erotic romance), I immediately became nervous. Is it too dark to lead with? Will my readers (hopefully I have some) be turned off when my blog is just a baby? Will I get angry comments from people who do not appreciate the sub-genre? Should I start out with something a bit “lighter?”

I even acknowledged in my inaugural blog post that I would be reviewing Rebel Wolf, which is a fine read, but not the one I originally wanted to review first.

Then it occurred to me, I’m letting this fear dictate what I do with my own creative outlet.

Well, that’ll not do! So, here I am posting my first review, Sociopath’s Obsession By V.F. Mason.

I’ve been grappling with different ideas on how to review. There are so many ways. Many experienced reviewers have their gold standard method, and I’ve decided to try a bunch of different styles. I’ll call this style of review my Listrotic method.

Also, I’ll try not to have spoilers, but it’s pretty hard for me!

What I enjoyed:

  • The intensity was on fire!
  • I like my Anti-hero dark, and I was not disappointed!
  • I was impressed by Sapphire’s tenacity and sense of right and wrong.
  • The storyline kept me guessing.
  • I’m a sucker for a good revenge plot!

What didn’t completely do it for me:

  • At times I was confused and couldn’t tell which brother the author was talking about.
  • The story could use some room to breath; it felt rushed at times.
  • I wanted more characterization of secondary characters.

Final Word:

  • This book should have trigger warnings upon trigger warnings!
  • The premise felt very unique.
  • The intensity was palpable.
  • A+ for the Anti-hero game!
  • I almost died from the tension throughout the book.
  • This is a DARK one!

Final final word:

I recommended this book to my fellow sexy bookster, Alice. She read it in one night and bought the sequel instantly. She called me and pretty much squealed the entire time…so I guess that’ll count as a secondary review.

Grade:  4 stars

Read on with your sexy self!
